A couple of questions ...
... I'm considering/working on redoing my layout and switching to another hosting site. Any recommendations? I would like something fairly simple to work with. I only know basic stuff about HTML and fixing layouts and pages and stuff. Even if you just want to let me know your pros and cons with what you use The only things is I need someplace free. I am young and poor, and I would rather buy yarn than have blog I could have for free.
I'm also going to go with a new layout/theme. I am throwing ideas around in my head. I am fairly sure I'm not going to stick with "Taking Back the Knit". It's just not what I'm about, and all that jazz. I've been thinking about going with a "Gee You Knit" thing, like my URL. It's a knitting pun, and I like those. But I feel like it might be a little hackneyed. I've also thought about something in French. I've been studying French for years now, and I love it, but I feel like it will imply my entire blog is en français if my title is. I wouldn't want to scare people off with that. I am bad at making decisions, so if anyone has any suggestions or opinions please share them!
On a weird/funny note, I have been getting some crazy referrers! I understand some of them, but I'm not really sure what the hell I could have been talking about that matched up to some of them! I'm kind of surprised that all the boobholder references haven't turned up anything dirtier.

I have been happy with Blogger although I know many other people hate it. The templates are nice enough and easy to change if you decide you want something a little more unique. I have only had a problem posting pics through it's picture hosting service once; rather I just used my photobucket account to add pics to my post that time.
Those google search results are great! Mine turn up some wacky results but none so shocking as the "broke black guys" one!!

Blogger is definitely one of my serious competitors. Blogger and WordPress seem to be the best, as far as I can tell.
I use photobucket and flickr already, so picture hosting isn't really a priority. But it is always nice.
I tried to google that and see if my page would show it, and it didn't. It's just plain weird, I tell you!

ohmy! *LMFAO* really makes you think if people read the discriptions of the page before they click on it when they do a web search! What scares me, I get people hitting my site looking for clown porn... uh.. I don't wanna know!

it really is quite strange the referrers you'll get, huh?? I don't know if blogger is *that* much better, but I like it overall. I wish I knew more about html, too

Hi I came via your site through crochet or possibly celtic cable scarf knitting pattern - definitely not the guys sucking dicks! anyhoo - I use squarespace as my blog its sooooo easy, and has tutorials explaining everything while your playing with things.
you can have more than one blog at the same site, theres photo gallerys, etc, etc, the html is basic - I only had a blog through blogger and had no idea how to do html - I was very computer illiterate!
so for me to swap over & to be able to change my blog all the time is so reasurring as I seem to change the layout a lot.
so if you want they host free for a month then you have to pay a yearly fee, or you can pay it monthly, but by credit card. I have the basic package which has everything youll ever need & its very cheap I think it cost me $85 for the whole year so thats $7.00 a month.
so it may be worth giving it a try, it has a tracking system in it so you can track your referrers and how many hits & subscribers you get - there are sooo many features that I really cant list them all, and and the support is very fast if you need to ask questions if your not sure of anything - I wouldnt go to another web host ever as squarespace is just so damn good! so heres the link, good luck.

I'm used to weird referrers because with some of the stuff I talk about it's bound to happen. But clown porn?! That's just bizzare. (And now since I have that here I hope it doesn't end up in my referrers! ha)
Thanks for the suggestion, I have never even heard of that site before!
I think I will probably be joing Melissa over at blogger, though. Although WordPress does seem fairly cool. If only I could decide on a theme/layout!

LOL on your keywords....too funny.
I used wordpress, and I lurve it. I used to be on blogger, but it was so unreliable. Granted, I have my own server, but I don't really hear as much negative things about wordpress like I do about blogger.

so creepy. so so so creepy. i have started to be careful about saying "pron" on my site, i didn't know why everyone misspelled it, and then...and also, i tend to say that i am a "puuuusssY" again, attempting not to give your site creepy hits. i have cut that out, too. and then, the gross accidental tranny/foot fetish (not that i care if someone wants to dress like a woman. god knows i don't do it) on flickr. they get all funny about people posting artwork, but squished balls...no worries.

oh, and as for the blogger thing, i am completely computer illiterate and i have had no issues, knock on wood, and it is easy to use. my only issue with it is that unlike some of the fancier ones, you can't put tags up and organize posts. although, i barely get done what i need to get done now. but blogger i think looks nicer than livejournal. i hate how it looks. and as for the pics, i load em up from flickr, if you don't and wanna know how, let me know, everyone uses the blogger photo uploader which i think is slow and sucky. so ask me if you want. oh, also, my web dude can do stuff for you for probably pretty cheap if you just wanted a template or something...and actually it hink a lot of people will do that for you for really cheap.

I have never heard anything negative about wordpress either, but I wonder if it's because it's less used? It seems more complicated, though. I like the plain-ness of your layout, Sharon. Not distracting at all. (Unlike this blog!)
Everyone misspells "p0rn" because they are too busy typing one-handed! (ew!) I've already got the weird hits, hahaha, so no worries.
I actually laughed hysterically at the 'it's fine if someone wants to dress like a woman, I don't' comment, natasha! I don't dress too femininely either. Although I am getting better at it ... I used to just feel uncomfortable/weird. I'm not the girliest of girls.
Tags are a cool thing, but I kind of wonder if people actually use them. I don't for myself. If I'm looking for a specific post I either search for it by title or date. Frankly, I'm not even sure why I use tags here.
One of the main things I want to switch for is being able to use the flickr thing, and I think photobucket has it too. (Because I upload way too many photos for just a free flickr account. But I am going to go pro, I think.) LiveJournal doesn't suit knitting blogs at all. It has more of a journal-y feel. Like teenage girl who is sad about her boyfriend-ish.
Wherever I go, I will probably use a basic template and just tweak it. I want something plain and simple: something pretty much the opposite of here.
THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL OF YOUR INPUT!

Thanks for visiting my blog! To give you my 2 cents on blog hosting... Blogger is EVIL. I was on blogger before, and it was always down. Also, on Blogger you can't reply to comments by e-mail. I'm using WordPress, which is free (yay!), and pretty straightforward to use. I host it on my own site, which costs a little bit ($10/mo or so), but you can have it hosted on the wordpress site (http://wordpress.com/) for free. It's very straightforward to use too, especially if you find a pre-designed template to use (there are tons of them out there) - very limited, if any, knowledge of html required.

I had been almost set on blogger but I'm now thinking about wordpress again!
I might just go with blogger and then if it's too mcuh trouble for me, switch to wordpress. =
